Shaking Frogs And Salsa Lessons

The thunderstorm raged through the night.  Rain pounded the roof and more than once, I awoke to the entire room illuminated from a lightning bolt.  It was wonderful.

The itinerary for our second day in Tortuguero included a nature walk through a frog pound and butterfly garden, all on the grounds of the Mawamba Lodge, followed by an afternoon cruise on the river where we would look for Costa Rica’s wildlife.  What we didn’t plan for was the rain.  Granted, we were the ones who decided to travel during the wet season so we knew what we were getting into.  Well, at least some of us.

Back In Time For The Holidays

Writing

For the last few months, this blog here has been pretty quiet, though I’ve tried to be an active reader and commenter so you all know I haven’t completely disappeared. It’s not for lack of wanting to or lack of inspiration.  I could give you all the typical run around of being so busy and focused on other projects, but there’s just more to it than that.  A while ago I decided, much like some of my favorite bloggers also seem to have done, to focus on living life rather than writing about it. Expect Less, Enjoy More

I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who has had great expectations for something—be it a first date, a new movie, or a job interview—and has been let down when reality did not match up to our vision.  It can be hard to deal with and certainly disappointing when life just doesn’t go the way you expected it to.

Embrace The Fabulous

How many times have you felt like the life you lead wasn’t the life you wanted?  How many times have you let an opportunity pass because you didn’t feel good enough about yourself to take it?  How sick and tired are you of making excuses as to why your life isn’t consumed with the sparkle and shine of a thousand disco balls?

Friendship: The Art Of Failure

Seems like I'm always the one keeping a distance.

I am a horrible friend.

Yes, it’s true.  When it comes to friendships, I suck.  I am stubborn, temperamental, and have an excruciating time accepting people for who they are if who they are differs from who I expect them to be.  I walk away from people when I no longer feel that they are a part of my life’s story.  It’s not easy to be my friend and I must admit, it is my own damn fault.

When it comes to ending friendships, I am a complete chicken.  I hate confrontation and I just end up disappearing from people’s lives, like a phantom.  I’m sure there are a ton of people out there who wonder where I went or what they did or didn’t do to make me go poof in the night, but I just don’t have the balls to tell them.  When a switch flips in my head that makes me see a person a certain way, it’s impossible for me to flip it back.  Believe me, I’ve tried.
